Lyons Technologies Inc. ("we," "our," or "us"), an Ontario corporation, operates Solara at the domain you are currently visiting. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our personal finance platform.

We are committed to complying with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. By using Solara, you consent to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account.
Financial data: Transactions, budgets, savings goals, bills, net worth entries, and income sources that you enter or that are synced from your connected bank accounts.
Bank connection data: When you connect a bank account via Plaid, Plaid retrieves your account balances and transaction history on our behalf. We store your account metadata and transaction data, but we never store your banking login credentials.
Payment information: Processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.
AI interaction data: When you use the AI Financial Advisor, your messages and your anonymized financial summary are sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. This data is not used to train AI models.
Usage data: How you interact with the app, including pages visited and features used.
Device information: Browser type, operating system, and IP address for security and analytics.

3. How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain Solara service
To sync and display your bank transactions and balances
To power the AI Financial Advisor with your real financial context
To process your subscription payments
To send you transactional emails (account verification, receipts)
To improve and personalize your experience
To detect and prevent fraud or unauthorized access

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following trusted third-party services to operate Solara:

Clerk — Authentication and user account management. Clerk Privacy Policy
Stripe — Payment processing. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored by us. Stripe Privacy Policy
Plaid — Bank account connectivity. Plaid retrieves your financial data directly from your institution using your banking credentials, which are never shared with us. Plaid Privacy Policy
Anthropic — AI Financial Advisor responses. Your financial summary (with no personally identifying details beyond amounts and categories) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. Anthropic does not use your data to train its models. Anthropic Privacy Policy

5. Cross-Border Data Transfers

As an Ontario corporation using cloud infrastructure, your personal information may be stored and processed in the United States. By using Solara, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in Canada. We ensure that all third-party processors we use maintain appropriate security standards consistent with PIPEDA.

6. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL and at rest using AES-256 encryption. Row-level security is enforced at the database level — no user can access another user's data. We implement industry-standard security practices to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure of your information.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will permanently delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or regulatory purposes.

8. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data (available in Settings or by contacting us)
Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent to our use of your data at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions
Export: Export your financial data from within the app
Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) at priv.gc.ca

9. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and maintain your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may affect your ability to use certain features of the Service.

Solara is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by displaying a notice in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use of Solara after changes are made constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
